SANCB has formed an exciting partnership with Be My Eyes, to make assistive services in South Africa more accessible.
Be My Eyes is a video calling app that allows sighted volunteers to ‘see’ and provide information to vision impaired users. South African users will soon be able to make a Be My Eyes call to the SANCB to obtain information about the SANCB, member organisations, and the Assistive Technology Centre.
“This is a big opportunity for the SANCB. There are about 1 300 Be My Eyes users in SA and about 6 000 volunteers,” said centre manager Hanif Kruger.
These volunteers speak many South African languages, including Afrikaans, North Ndebele, South Ndebele, Swati, Venda, South Sotho, Xhosa and Zulu.
