White canes play a starring role in the lives of visually impaired persons. Once they’re accustomed to using a cane, they rarely leave home without it.
One teenager who loves her cane is Angelina Khumalo*. The SANCB supported her with a cane when she was a child, and she now uses it to move quickly and confidently on her own.
Angelina will never forget the first time she went out alone to fetch groceries for her mom – equipped with only her cane and the voice directions of Google Maps on her phone.
We thank our donors for giving people like Angelina the taste of freedom . . . and the thrill of independence!
*Not her real name.
