Cataract surgery is one of the most rewarding procedures performed by
the SANCB’s Bureau for the Prevention of Blindness.
It’s incredible that 24 hours after surgery, a person with cataract blindness can have their sight restored – and with it the ability to enjoy simple pleasures like reading, cooking and walking.
74-year-old Jabulani Tshabalala, from Mpumalanga, had his donor-funded surgery in 2019. The surgery was a success and Jabulani was overjoyed to see his great- grandchildren for the first time.
He knew the sound of their voices and the shape of their faces – but he cried with joy when he laid eyes on them!
Thank you for giving elderly folk like Jabulani the extraordinary gifts of sight and freedom.
