A bare piece of land has been transformed into a thriving hydroponic garden by the Chaneng Association for the Blind. The self- help group produces vegetables and honey all year around, but their business was hamstrung by a tiny local market.

Then Royal Bafokeng Platinum stepped in to provide infrastructure like shade nets and irrigation; and ABSA funded business development training facilitated by the SANCB. Armed with their new knowledge of markets and management; the team expanded their base of regular customers to include a SPAR and a hotel.

They’re now one of the SANCB’s most successful member organisations. Their success is a shining example of the impact visually impaired persons can make against hunger, poverty and unemployment.

Our business gets us out of bed every morning. We really want our business to grow and include more people who are excluded due to disability,” they say.
