Education, Social Inclusion and Development

Education, Social Inclusion and Development

The Education, Social Inclusion and Development division (ESID) facilities and lobbies for the inclusion of visually impaired persons into all mainstream activities. These areas include educational and advocacy support to our member organisations, which include six Early Childhood Development Centres, 22 special schools for blind persons and approximately 70 community-based member organisations and enterprises.

Our main goal is to capacitate and strengthen these member organisations in their quest to provide better services to visually impaired persons in all nine provinces. We have also undertaken some exciting new projects such as the Braille Cup Competition and Winter School Project.

SABYO (SA Blind Youth Organisation) and SABWIA (SA Blind Women in Action) are two wings of Council that also form part of this Division, advocating for all matters that affect blind women and blind youth in their Communities. Consumer Watch, Sports for the Blind, Orientation and Mobility Training and Accessibility are ongoing lobby areas for this Division. A Divisional Manager oversees key personnel and provincial office staff across all nine provinces.
