Walk with us across Optima’s campus and meet some visually impaired students who are shooting for the stars. Thanks to you, blindness does not tie them down.
Turning to his studies
Dylan Mashele, a 28-year-old from Tzaneen, started losing his sight to juvenile glaucoma as a schoolboy. Despite this, he completed matric and obtained a Degree in Human Resources.
But finding a job is hard and so Dylan turned to his studies: obtaining a Degree in Business Administration, NQF level 5 (business skills) and Generic Management.
He’s now studying Introduction to Computers at Optima and says it’s a turning point. “Optima gives students a second chance in life. The facilitators are patient and encourage us to aim for greater things. I know the skills I learn here will help me get a job.”
We’re sure Dylan isn’t destined to be a student forever – and look forward to hearing about his first permanent job.
